There are some shows that just feel like home, and for me, that’s the Evergreen Tattoo Invitational in Eugene, Oregon. I’m heading back this year from March 20–22, and honestly, it’s a trip I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

The Evergreen has always been my favorite. It’s not about the flash or the fluff; this is what’s known as a true tattooer’s convention. It’s a room full of people who actually live this craft, where the focus stays exactly where it should be: on the art and the grit of the work being done in the chairs.

Looking back, my last time there in 2022 was one of those moments that sticks with you. I walked away with Best of Day on Friday, but the hardware wasn’t the highlight. What made it heavy was the fact that two of the judges were Joshua Carlton and Krist Karloff.

If you know this industry, you know those names. They were two of my absolute favorite artists—titans who helped pave the way for the rest of us. We lost both of them way too soon, and they aren’t making any more like them. To say I was honored to get a nod from those two is a massive understatement. It was a career high I’ll never forget. RIP.

I’m going back to Eugene to honor that legacy and get back to work in a room that respects the history of what we do.
